Bagan

Bagan is an ancient city situated in the Mandalay region of Myanmar. The city was the capital of the 1st Burmese Empire. It has a dry climate with no monsoon season. Bagan is the home of many temples and ancient architectural buildings filled with Myanmar traditions.

The Dhammayangyi Temple is the largest temple in Bagan and it was built during the reign of the King Narathu. The King Narathu oversaw the construction himself but the temple was not completed because he was assassinated before the completion. The Ananda Temple has the similar architectural structure to Dhammayangyi Temple. It was built during the reign of King Kyansittha and it is known to be the most beautiful temple in Bagan. The most famous sunset-viewing spot in Bagan is the Shwesandaw Temple. The visitors can climb up the steps to the five level terraces and to the top of the stupa. It is a great place to have 360 degree view of Bagan.

In Bagan, you will see many handicrafts shops around the temples. Those handicrafts make the best souvenirs to take home. Amongst those handicrafts, the Myanmar marionettes reflect the essence of ancient Myanmar culture and traditions.

Tourists from all over the world come to this old city and get immersed in the atmosphere of once glorified kingdom of Myanmar. Hopping onto the horse cart and exploring around the city is a favorite of all the visitors. You can even ride a hot air balloon and experience the most amazing view of the whole city from above!
